Website Mrkich Law

Astrid Mrkich is the founder of Mrkich Law and is a lawyer based in Toronto, Ontario. She studied at McGill University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Literature and Political Science; at Trent University, where she earned a Bachelor of Education and became a certified Ontario secondary-school teacher; and at Carleton University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Literature. Astrid’s teaching career brought her to rural Kenya where she worked with a Canadian NGO on developing community based educational initiatives for at risk youth, as well as to Algonquin College, where she taught academic upgrading, and Humber College, where she taught English and Math, and more recently taught Legal Writing for the Law Clerk and Paralegal programs. Astrid completed her JD at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto, and spent a semester at Monash in Melbourne, Australia. Throughout her time at law school, Astrid was hired by LAWS (Law in Action Within Schools) to develop law curriculum for legal workshops taught to high-school students, spent a semester as an Immigration Case Worker at Parkdale Community Legal Services, and was granted the Ian Scott Social Justice Fellowship to work with Ecojustice, an environmental justice organization. Astrid completed her articles at the Canadian Civil Liberties Association as a Law Foundation of Ontario Public Interest Articling Fellow, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2015. Since being called to the bar, Astrid has worked in both a high volume, private-practice setting, handling direct client litigation, and also within the public sector, performing client intake and policy work. Astrid’s passion for activism is what led her to the law profession. As the daughter of a displaced person who came to Canada, she is committed to refugee work. She is delighted to have opened Mrkich Law in 2018, and to work for and with clients on achieving their immigration goals.
